“And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought t
hat the gift of God could be purchased with money! You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.
Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” Acts 8:18-23 (NKJV)
The passage above is very clear on what the early believers (Apostles) thinks of “buying anointing – power of God,” with money. The modern day approach seems very different; many people seem to think that they can even buy God. The value system has so changed that Peter could be considered to be “out of touch”.
There was an incidence in the Old Testament that I will like you to read:
1 Kings 13:33-34, says, “After this event Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but again he made priests from every class of people for the high places; whoever wished, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places. And this thing was the sin of the house of Jeroboam, so as to exterminate and destroy it from the face of the earth.”
Do you really think you can buy the power of God?
Jeroboam used cunning tactics to keep people out of going to Jerusalem to worship. He made an idol for the people to worship and made priest for himself. He played politics with the things of God and lost big time.
The hot pursuit for transfer of anointing is really a big concern. Please beware of strange fire. We don’t need “strange fire” for the work of God. He is able to glorify his name in you and in your calling. You can read about the consequences of strange fire in Leviticus 10:1-3.
“And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not.
And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.
Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.”
God does not destroy His children but the devil may take advantage of strange fire to afflict those who “borrow it from him”
Job 1:16, reads “While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.” (KJV). The fire in this scripture was from the devil. He used it to afflict Job.
God is never pleased with merchandising His power. I strongly believe that believers must not “sell or buy” the power of God. Those who do it will argue with this message. Many people do it in disguise; they cloth their trade with “spiritual sugar” difficult to for many people to discern.
We cannot buy the power of God. It was never meant to be and will not be. Don’t be lured into it by any means.
